Clark County’s recent case rate of COVID-19 continues to fluctuate as it rose by about a quarter in the latest data as total all-time cases broke six digits.

Clark County Public Health’s July 21 report included 178.3 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, up from the 145 per 100,000 reported the prior week. 

Both Clark County’s rate and the rate statewide experienced increases this week. The county remains below Washington’s overall rate which was 256.7 per 100,000 of population as of July 21.

Recent case rates lag behind the most recent counts of cases. The health department’s most recent case rate was based on activity from July 5 to July 11.

The health department reported 930 new COVID-19 cases between July 14 and July 21, slightly more than the 901 reported between July 7 and July 14. In total, there have been 100,603 confirmed and probable cases in Clark County since the outbreak began.

Clark County Public Health’s July 21 report included four additional confirmed COVID-19 deaths and two additional deaths suspected to be due to the disease, compared to three confirmed deaths and five suspected deaths reported the prior week. 

The confirmed deaths were three women older than 80 and one woman in her 60s. The suspected deaths were a man and woman, both older than 80.

The deaths bring Clark County’s total to 865, including 747 confirmed and 118 suspected to be due to the disease.

The number of COVID-19 patients occupying hospital beds in Clark County stayed the same as the prior week. 

As of July 21, 12.6% of beds had either patients with confirmed COVID-19 or patients awaiting test results. The number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds occupied by COVID-19 patients was 11.8%.

New COVID-19 hospital admissions saw a decrease in the latest data. In its July 21 report, the health department reported 9.4 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, down from 10 admissions per 100,000 population reported on July 14.

Total hospital bed occupancy in the county stayed the same as last week while ICU beds in the county dropped as of July 21. The health department reported 97.7% of hospital beds and 94.1% ICU beds in the county were occupied, compared to 97.7% of all beds and 96.1% of ICU beds on July 14.

Clark County’s statewide share of COVID-19 cases and deaths stayed about the same as of July 21 compared to the prior week. The Washington State Department of Health reported the county had about 5.9% of cases and 6% of deaths.
